Reducing Deforestation

Reducing deforestation is something we have to do to protect our wildlife and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One way to save our forests is by creating protected areas, where cutting down trees isn't allowed and species can be preserved. Another method is to promote sustainable energy. 2.6 billion people currently use biomass, which is mostly wood and charcoal, for cooking. Bioenergy made from scrap wood, oil, sugar, or waste can save trees from beingg cut down to be used as fuelwood. Deforestation is also a result of illegal logging. To stop illegal logging, strong policies and trade agreements are necessary. It's encouraged to buy wood products certiied by the Forest Stewardship Council in the U.S..
